The Blessed Family
Hi crafty friends, I have a card for you that I really, really struggled with and I'm not happy with it at all, but what is done is done. First off you know that I am trying to learn how to color with my Spectrum Noir markers. Yea, the key work is trying!! This is going to take a while to teach an old dog a new trick. lol Then instead of cutting my image out with a circle like I wanted to, I cut the entire thing out with the Nestie that wanted as the background like a dummy. Now that I've thought about it I could have still cut it out with a circle Nestie, but who said I could think?! I tried to "fix" it by putting on Antique Line distress ink on the background while in the Nestie and should have stopped there, but then decided to put some Iced Spruce too, but that didn't go so well for me either. Sigh So now I'm not happy with the coloring, sponging, or the way I have cut it out. Next I searched every piece of paper I own for the "right" paper to go with this image. Now let me tell you I don't have a ton of paper but have my fair share of stacks and lose paper. Not finding any Christmas (I don't have much Christmas paper) paper that looked good with the image I finally settled on what is on my card. I love the paper and it went the best with the image. Not exactly what I call Christmas, but....it the only thing I liked. So I guess I will let you see my pitiful card now and of course it has been very cloudy and overcast here for two days and Sandy is come to boot, so my pics aren't even very good. lol My card certainly leaves a LOT to be desired. Anyway I am entering it in "Rudolph Day" over at Stamping for Pleasure. Why you might ask after looking at it? Just for the heck of it and as my teen tell me, because I can. lol

Brenda, I like it. As you know, I'm learning too. I did find something on a youtube video that I'm finding VERY helpful. Email me if you are interested in the link. You are right, it's a whole new way to color! I'm glad you joined Rudolph Day...

Awww Brenda, don't be so hard on yourself. I think it looks great. That's a beautiful stamp and your coloring looks great. I've never really colored stamps, but it looks fine. If we lived closer I would give you some of my Christmas paper!

Brenda, Check my blog again..if this doesn't work for you go on you tube and do a search for Spectrum Noir. There are tons of videos there. Maybe we can learn together. It's on my bucket list for winter. :-) along with 1000 other things.
Brenda!! There is absolutely nothing wrong with this card! I love the image - we don't see enough traditional ones that illustrate the real meaning of Christmas! The papers you chose match the colours perfectly too.
I struggled with Spectrum Noirs for ages. I gave up and went back to my PMs!

Hi Brenda . . . well, I looked long and hard at your card (very poetic) and couldn't find anything I disliked about it. I think it's lovely and traditional. So what if the background paper doesn't have a holly leaf in sight? It doesn't detract from the main image which is very eye catching.
Stop being so hard on yourself!

Your card is lovely. You are doing great with the markers...don't be too hard on yourself. Your shading is very good, and I like the antique-ing you did around the edges. The blue gives sort of a 'halo' effect, and your S/B is just fine with this image. The image is the focus, so you don't really need to mat it! Your papers are very nice with this image, and perhaps if you had used Christmas-specific papers, might have detracted from it. Your paper colors are subtle with the image, and let the image be what draws in the eye. I think it is a really lovely card, and thanks for sharing!! Hugs
You are funny Brenda - your card is lovely of course! I really like the image and the non-Christmas paper gives it a modern edge.
