Hello my crafty friends, I hope you had a very nice and safe 4th of July. Bret and I went to my brother's house for a cookout on Sunday which was fun. Monday was gloomy and rainy, but they still had the fireworks in town. I didn't go, but Bret went in to get some Buffalo Wild Wings and saw some of them. Just another "first" under my belt. I have to say that these "firsts" are hard. I hope the "second's" won't be as hard. I sure do miss Dwayne and can't believe it is has been 9 months on the 10th of this month that he has been gone. Can't believe I've survived this long either! Ha! Guess I have no choice but to keep moving forward, so moving forward I do but I'm here to tell you it ain't easy!
I have a card for CAS Mix Up Card Challenge. I was making my friend's birthday card and realized that I used stamping, markers-my Zigs, and my choice of another which was die cutting on this card. Yay for me! It still kills me that I'm doing mixed media and don't know it half the time. lol I was at a friends house and used her SU Rose Wonder stamp set and the Rose Garden Thinlits to make my card. I stamped the flower on watercolor paper and colored with my Zig Clean Color Brush markers. Then I die cut the flower from black card stock. Left her house and on the 4th but this card together with the pieces I had. I cut out my stamped image and then placed the black die cut on top of the colored image. Mounted that to my card base and stamped my sentiment, added some sequins and tried to draw a line on the right hand side and top of the card. I used my t-ruler but didn't manage to get the top line straight. I can't even draw a line with a ruler! Oh well, I tried to hide that it wasn't straight with a sequin, hoping it draws the eye from the line not being straight. I think I might put some Wink of Stella on it yet, think that will look pretty. Anyway that is it. The challenge says we have to stamp, use markers and then something of our choice, and that was die cutting for me. Hope you will be joining in the challenge as well. It's loads of fun and I love seeing what everyone does.
I want to thank you for stopping by and visiting a spell with me. It was a hot one today and I'm sorry the pool deck was off limits while it is getting power washed. Hopefully next visit we can sit out on the pool deck and enjoy some nice breezes and warm pool water! As always your comments bring sunshine to my day and make me smile from ear to ear. Until next time.....Crafty hugs,

Beautiful card Brenda. LOVE the black outline with your zig coloured flower and leaves. Very dramatic. Thanks so much for sharing with us at CAS Mix Up!

This is one stunning card, and I love the rich, vivid colors you chose! I borrowed this set from my stamping buddy too, and the more I see it used, the more I think I should add it to my collection! This is beautiful, and I'm glad you got through the holiday well and good. I'd love to come dangle my toes in the pool with you one day - stay cool! The summer hot weather is bearing down on us for the next few days! It will be good stamping time me thinks :)
ReplyDeleteYou do CAS Mixed Media very well, Brenda! I'm still surprised that it's not so hard! I can't draw a straight line with a ruler. I'm glad to know that I'm in good company. I doodle because that's supposed to be crooked. I like loose watercoloring because I can't stay in the lines. Lucky for me these techniques are in vogue right now. Ha! Thanks so much for sharing with us at CAS Mix Up! And you keep putting one foot in front of the other. One day you'll realize that it's easier than it was. xoxo
ReplyDeleteYour card is so beautiful Brenda!! Don't you just love that stamp set and thinlits?! They are one of my favorites. You can use them for so many different occasions.
ReplyDeleteHang in there Brenda. They say it does get easier. I can't say that I know about losing a mate, but it's still hard with the first's without my Mom. But I do know that God will get us through.
Well doggone it!! I sure was hoping to get to set by the pool and shoot the breeze today!! Maybe next time!! :)
Brenda this is fabulous - love the way the black die cut brings the rose to life. A gorgeous card.

This is a gorgeous card Brenda, love the biiig rose. I hope your seconds and thirths and fourths....... get easier. For me personal after loosing my brother with whom I was very close, the years in between went okay. I was young and enjoying life to the full. But now as I am getting older, each year it is harder. Being 50 I now start thinking would he have kids ? Who would have been his wife ? How would he look like today etc etc Also not being able to share the import mile stones in my life with him are hard to deal with.
ReplyDeleteBut by concentrating on the here and present and on the nice memories with him it does help to cope with the pain. But everyone is different ofcourse it might be otherwise for you. In any case I wish you some new happiness in the future. When you are ready for it. Sending you love and hugs, Veerle xxxx
A magnificent card, Breanda, love the colours and die set, wonderfully used indeed. Feeling sad for you in the firsts but there is One Who holds you and carries you gently through each of this sis, and for those to come ...
ReplyDeleteSending hugs and prayers,

That is one stunning card Brenda dear friend! Your colouring is fabulous! You are quickly becoming a MM queen! I can't believe it has been nine months since Dwaynes passing, it does get easier with time little by little, but remember, he is still with you really, you just can't see him. ReplyDeleteAwesome! Love that bold embossed outline to your beautiful rose, and that is some splendid watercoloring. Glad that you had a good 4th, and yes, I can imagine the 'firsts' are hard. You are facing them, though, and staying strong. I'm proud of you. TFS & Hugs. MM
ReplyDeleteBrenda, the black detailing of your rose is just gorgeous. Your water coloring rocks! You are so creative and so strong. Be blessed, my friend.
ReplyDeleteHey Bren.... this card is so pretty! I have this stamp and die set and its a very elegant and beautiful set to use. I love the outline, it looks best in black. ...great card! Glad to hear your 4th went well. Ours was busy and went well too but no fireworks for us. Ours was rained out down here at the shore so our rain date is this upcoming Saturday.
