College Bound!-BBTB2 Travel Challenge

Hello my crafty friends, I hope this Monday finds you guys refreshed from the holiday weekend and ready for the work week ahead. I haven't done an update on hubby in a while, so thought I would up date you all. Doc put hubby on chemo pills, but that wasn't going to well. The chemo pills have a side effect of blisters on the hands and feet. Well after a week of taking them poor hubby came home for lunch one Thursday and he could barely walk. I felt so bad for him. Needless to say he was home the rest of the day! We called in and doc took him off the chemo pills. Then hubby went in for his one treatment and doc decided to cut back the chemo pills. So instead of take 4 twice a day, he was going to take 3 twice a day. Well, that didn't work either. So once again he was taken off the pills. This last time doc decided that since he could make it through a week of the pills that he would have hubby do 3 pills twice a day for a week and then have a week off. Then back on a week and off a week. So far so good. Doc is hopping that this keeps enough chemo in his body to keep hubby in remission. I hope too!!! Hubby says he feels great except for the side effects from the chemo. So I think that is a good sign.

Well our challenge this week at BBTB2 is travel! Pam our creative and so sweet design team sister gave us that challenge. At first I wasn't sure what I wanted to do, but then it hit me. Ya'll know that my baby graduated high school and will be leaving for college in August. So I thought he has to travel to get to college and he will be basically moving out. So I did a layout of when he will be leaving. I will be taking pictures of him packing up his car to go. I will also be adding another page to this layout with pictures of his dorm apt. and maybe even his room mates. So exciting and yet so sad. lol Yes, it is going to be hard for me to let him go. After having children under my roof for the last 35 years-well it's going to be very different! I used the Artbooking cartridge for the calendar page cut, the "hello" badge and I cut 2 camera's from it too, but didn't use them yet. Not sure if I will use on on this page or not, but will definitely use them on the next page. My title is from the cartridge Printing 101 and my packed up car comes from Camping Critters. I used a SU punch for the photo corners on the notebook paper. That is where I will put a picture of his Jeep Liberty all packed up. I will be writing or die cutting his name to put on the "hello" badge as well. I used MCT square stitched die to cut out for my dates and the stitched caption dies for "what's happening" on the date squares. I also stamped using MCT stamps the month, the dates and the year. I used blue homemade enamel dots for my "push pins" to look like the calendar was hanging up on a bulletin board. My background paper is look a like framed cork board. I thought it was perfect to put the calender cut out on. There is a welcome weekend on the 16th and 17th of August for students and parents and then classes will start on the 18th. So when we go up with DS we will be leaving him there. I can tell you I will be crying the whole 2 1/2 hour drive home!!! lol Just the way I am. My oldest told me I was killing him with my crying when we had to leave him at AIT training at Ft. Jackson, SC and I cried for a few hours coming home from there. Don't mean to make them feel bad, but it is just a mother's thing. Or at least I think it is, please tell me you all did the same and that I'm not the only one who does this!

Well make sure to check out what my design team sisters have for you in the way of travel inspiration and then get that Cricut of yours humming and link up with us. Thanks for stopping by and visiting me today. You know I always love when you stop by for a spell, your comments always put a spring in my step and a smile on my face! Crafty hugs, Brenda

  1. This is so cute and perfect for the event! I didn't cry since my son went to school just an hour away. When our daughter went to school about 3 hours away, I worried so much I couldn't cry!

Glad your hubby is feeling good except for side effects. Hoping he feels stronger everyday!

  3. I hope your hubby continues to do well. It sometimes takes time to adjust meds just right. It's hard to let the kids go but so fulfilling to see them become adults. You will fill that time up so fast when he leaves. Make cards and send him packages to bring home to him at school!

No I didn't cry when my son went to college as it was just 2 hours away. I cry more now that he is home and can't find a job. Good new for your husband, I like getting the updates.

  9. What a great idea to make a layout for your son and his leaving for college. Love the car with all the bags and all the wonderful elements of your layout. I am a cryer also. Just comes with the territory. Will continue to pray for your hubby and that things will go smoothly with getting your son in school. It was quite an adjustment with our empty nest, but you get used to it and it is never empty for very long, lol.

  10. Great layout. I never did this for my son because he is not very sentimental, BUT I am sure I will for my daughter. She loves this type of stuff.

  12. Aw, this is so sweet. I know you are sort of dreading this big event, but you will adjust. You know this is what you brought him up to be able to do, so he's just going to the next part of ya'll's journey. Having the story in pictures will be a wonderful way to remember this bittersweet time, and what a keepsake for him in later life. Glad to hear DH is managing ok on the current regimen. TFS & Hugs

  14. Nice layout - the die cuts and journal notes fit your theme quite well. I cried and cried when each of my boys left for college. My oldest went to school 6 hours away. My youngest went to the other side of the country. You will survive - LOL. Glad for the good news about your husband.

  15. Adorable layout, Brenda. I know it's bittersweet for you but it is really cute. Some one should take a photo of you crying on the way home. He will have a memory of how much he is loved.
Glad your hubby is doing better on the modified regimen. Praying for success.

  22. Hi Brenda

Yes, it is hard letting our babies go. I don't think it matters what the distance .. .. I think it is just the fact that they aren't in the nest any more.

Loving the project you have posted and was pleased to read that your hubby is progressing OK .. .. despite the blips he seems to keep running into.

    Love Jules xx

  24. Great to hear your DH is doing well after such a horrid time, Brenda ... hope it continues! What a fun layout ... so perfect for when your DS spreads his wings. Whilst you may cry (a lot!), you'll be so proud of him, making his way in the world and embarking on this fabulous new adventure in his life! Hugs, Anita :)

  25. Hello, hello *waving and jumping up and down* by sweet friend! Aiming to catch up on your posts this bright morning, from our vacation rental in BEND Oregon. I. LOVE. BEND! My husband starts the first, of four, races later today (Cascade Classic), and I'm up early, giddy and excited. I have feed zone duty (passing water bottles to him when he whizzes by) and wow, nervous Nelly I am. Anyway...how dreadful for your husband to experience the blistering, but glad the doctor made adjustments. Fingers crossed he's doing well! Your layout for your son: totally awesome! He'll only 'leave home' once, so capturing memories for a keepsake is thoughtful and heart-warming. Now, about that crying - you go ahead and cry your eyes out, if you choose, because that's part of who you are; part of what makes you absolutely unique, special and fabulous!! What others say doesn't matter: your son is "your" baby, and you can respond to his leaving any way you please! The same for your other boys: your guys first and foremost! Cry, laugh...do what comes naturally to you! When I leave my family (4 hour drive), rest assured that a good part of the trip home sees tears streaming down my cheeks. When my niece, nephew, sister-in-law and her mom left last Sunday, I was totally crying as I tidied up the house, in preparation for our trek to Bend the next day. Crying is, in my opinion, as much a sign of love as it is of sadness or joy. "Feel" what you feel, sweet Brenda. Feel...Mega hugs~c
